Crucial Guides to Help You Reduce the Potential of Getting a Lung Disease

The human lungs are the central part of the respiratory system. The oxygen that we inhale is received by the lungs and will be then transported into the blood to be distributed throughout the body. Taking care of the lungs is one very important task that people should take to live longer. There are many diseases that can affect the lungs and threaten a person’s life that people may not be aware of.

The common diseases of the lungs that affect the entire life of an individual include lung cancer, pneumonia, asthma and tuberculosis. According to most health experts the leading cause of the occurrence of lung diseases is smoking cigarettes. However, there are also other factors that may potentially expose a person to these diseases. These may include air pollution, exposure to toxic materials or chemicals and second-hand smoke.

To minimize the chances of getting lung diseases, follow these tips.

1.      Avoid harmful fumes, smokes and dusts

The best thing to avoid direct exposure to smoke is to quit the smoking habit. While second- hand smoke may also affect a person’s health, it is important to remember that when you smoke you might not only be damaging your life but other people as well. Avoid exposing yourself to toxic elements like asbestos and dusts from coals.

Asbestos is a life threatening agent because of its ability to get someone into trouble of having a serious lung or heart disease after too much exposure to its dusts. This is a fact that people should be aware of because of the presence of this element in items or materials used in buildings. This can create a disease in the lungs that would give a person a specific time to live.

2.      Exercise regularly

Many people may not be aware that working out on a regular basis will not only help them lose weight but may also keep their lung functions properly.  There is no need to go to the gym to learn about the exercises you need to keep your lungs healthy. Simple exercises such as stair climbing and brisk walking can increase the heart rate while keeping your breathing patterns in a normal condition.

3.      Maintain a proper diet

Proper diet can also help keep your lungs healthy. Foods with antioxidants can help fight the bacteria and virus that may cause diseases in the lungs. Fruits and protein rich foods are ideal choices to keep your lungs clean and free from harmful chemicals. Foods that may help repair damages of the lung tissues may include carrots, pineapples, oranges, tomatoes and berries. Vegetables may also lower the risk of obtaining life threatening diseases of the lungs.

4.      Increase fluid consumption

Drink plenty of water every day to cleanse the whole body from the toxins acquired from unhealthy foods you have taken for the day. Fruit juices are also helpful in maintaining clear lungs. Sodas and fluids that contain considerable amount of sugar may not be a healthy choice for your lungs as well as the other body organs.

5.      Have a regular check up

Visit your doctor regularly to be aware of the functioning of your lungs and your overall health. This is an essential prevention process that will enable doctors to determine the abnormal changes in the cells and the functions of rest of the organs in the body.

Once a person’s lungs are damaged there is no other way to repair them.  However, there are certain medications given to patients with lung cancer to relieve the painful symptoms that they may experience and to prevent them from making further health complications. Since there is no accurate cure for lung diseases it is best to avoid acquiring the problem as early as possible.
