Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO):

Under this plan, you will need to pay a small co-pay amount. So, your choices are limited and to ensure that the doctor’s cost is covered with HMO plan.

Point of Service Plan (POS):

This plan is somewhat similar to HMO plan. However, in this plan, your primary doctor can refer you to another doctor in the POS network. In case, the primary doctor refers you to a doctor, who is not in the network plan would still pay for the services, but if you choose an outside doctor, you will have to pay co-insurance, which is certain percentage of the total service charge.

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO):

This plan blends both of the above plans – HMO and POS. If you choose any doctor and hospital from the network, most of your costs are covered, but if you choose a service outside the network, you end paying more out of your pocket.
