Personal Costs of Obesity (Infographic)

Obesity is one of the biggest health concerns today. The obesity rate has risen drastically over the past couple of decades. Experts are also predicting that over 40 percent of Americans will be obese by the year 2030. Obesity makes a person more susceptible to developing a number of health problems. Additionally, people who are obese spend a lot more money each year than those who are a healthy body weight.

The average obese man spends $2,646 per year on things such as life insurance, gasoline and health care. The costs are even higher for obese women. The average obese woman spends about $4,879 per year on life insurance, gasoline and health care.

Additionally, obese people make less money than normal weight people. The average obese person makes $3.41 less per hour than workers who are a healthy body weight. Furthermore, the average obese woman makes 11 percent less than her normal weight co-workers.
