Allison Roth went to her Planet Fitness Michigan gym regularly to work out and stay in shape, but she claims that after a recent controversial decision by Planet Fitness, she canceled her membership and began looking for other options. Roth, 17, says she was told by Planet Fitness that her outfit was inappropriate for the gym and was making other customers uncomfortable. Roth took offense to the gym telling her to cover up or go home and chose to leave and cancel her membership. This isn’t the first time planet fitness has enforced this policy.
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) – A fitness center is looking to offer its services for free to the Michigan teen who called out Planet Fitness’ “judgement free zone”.
Allison Roth, 17, says she was working out in a tank top at the Planet Fitness franchise in Waterford Township when she was told she either had to cover up or leave because her outfit was making others too uncomfortable.
Roth was upset by what she was told, so she left the gym and has since canceled her membership. She says she was never informed of any dress code policy when she signed up.
Her story has sparked outrage among many. In less than 24 hours, it has generated nearly two thousand comments on FOX 2’s Facebook page.
The majority of our Facebook fans seems to agree with Roth, saying the tank top covered her appropriately and she should not have been hassled for it.
Michael Bloomquist owns the Powerhouse Gym in Clinton Township and knew he wanted to help Roth after he saw her story.
He is offering her a lifetime membership that would allow her to use the gym at any time and participate in all of the classes.
“I truly believe in a judgement-free zone when you work out. I don’t care if you’re 80 years old of 17 years old. You should be able to wear what you want and enjoy what you’re doing and reap the benefits of health and fitness,” he says.
