Ukraine’s Disturbing ‘Barbie Flu’ Trend

Valeria Lukyanova afflicted by the Barbie Flu trend

Barbie’s body dimensions is physically impossible for a human to ever achieve, but that isn’t stopping a ridiculous number of women in Ukraine from trying achieve barbies dimensions. After Valeriya Lukyanova, an Ukrainian woman gained international notoriety for her barbie like transformation into a life like doll. Two more women have since gone under knife to achieve this ridiculous look, now dubbed the “Barbie flu.”

When did it start?

It seems to have been started by Valeriya Lukyanova.  She made global headlines back in April for turning herself into a  real Barbie doll with the help of plastic surgery, eyelash extensions, colored contact lenses, and styling. Her heavily exaggerated proportions — 34-inch bust, 18-inch waist, 34-inch hips — come really close to what a real-life Barbie would be. Check out her interview on a Ukrainian talk show talking about her appearance above.

Now more women are following the Barbie look trend?

At least two other Ukrainian women have under gone this mind blowing surgery procedure. One of them is Olga Oleynik, who goes by Dominkia, who is friends with Valeriya Lukyanova. Dominkia has had breast enlargement to complement her doll-like look which also includes long hair, contact lenses, and heavy makeup.

Real life anime girl Anastasiya Shpagina

Unlike the other two, Anastasiya Shpagina, 19, who goes by Anime, claims she has not had plastic surgery, though she would like to one day. For now, her look is achieved only through styling and makeup as well as an extremely limited diet of just fruits and vegetables. Anime reportedly rises at 5 a.m. to complete her look — which includes fairy-like outfits, long purlish hair, and large raccoon-like eyes — before leaving for work.
