Jose Pena is only 17 years old but he already owns a weightlifter world record. It’s not hard to see why.
Think back to when you were 17 years old. What had you accomplished at that point in your life? You’d probably gotten your drivers license. Maybe you were on a varsity sports team. Maybe you’d made the National Honors Society. Maybe you’d gotten to second base with a girl. But chances are you hadn’t set any world records in anything.
Now meet Joseph Pena, a high school kid from San Antonio. In 2014, at the age of 15, Pena set a world junior record when he squatted 727 pounds raw, without raps, at the drug-tested USA Powerlifting Nationals. Now, at the age of 17, he’s set another world record by squatting a whopping 875 pounds at the Holy Cross Invitational weightlifting meet. And he made it look easy.
I don’t know about you, but I’m impressed. Hell, I feel macho when I buy the extra large 70-pound bag of dog food and manage to get it to the car without pulling a muscle. So hats off to Joseph Pena. That kid is a beast.
