In this day and age with the rising obesity epidemic there is a greater need for us to take control of our weight, it is no longer acceptable to allow ourselves to become obese as not only is there a social stigma but will also increase the risk of suffering numerous health issues.
The first step to losing weight is to think about why you want to lose the weight, and this can be difficult for some. When you think about your weight loss objectives you may just think purely about how much weight you could lose. Perhaps you would see more success if you thought a little deeper as to how this weight loss would change your life.
Why broaden your weight loss objectives?
We all know that losing weight is not easy, for a start the weight has been slowly accumulating for a number of years due to your sedentary lifestyle and food choices. To lose the weight and actually keep it off you will need to make sure your subconscious agrees with your choices. With a narrow objective of simply losing weight it is unlikely that you will be able to convince your subconscious, but by setting carefully chosen objectives you are more likely to succeed.
How to set your weight loss objectives?
To set your objectives you will need to sit down and decide why you want to lose weight, just remember that writing “because I am too fat” is not a valid reason.
Here are a few possible example reasons:
Reason #1 – To embarrassed to go shopping and trying on those size 18 dresses.
Objective #1 – To actually be able to go and try on a size 12 dress.
Reason #2 – You have high blood pressure, 150/90.
Objective #2 – To stabilise your blood pressure at 120/70.
Reason #3 – You are sick of women looking at you in disgust.
Objective #3 – To make those women jealous.
Hopefully these 3 examples will give you a little idea of why you actually want to lose weight.
How to achieve your weight loss objectives?
As you can see from the above example there is not one mention of losing weight. There is however 3 legitimate reasons why you would want to lose the weight. Now we are not going to talk about how you are going to lose the weight, instead you will find ways to help you achieve these objectives.
Here are some tips:
- Write your objectives down and keep them to hand.
- If it is possible read your objective aloud in the morning, lunchtime and in the evening.
- First thing in the morning and last thing at night you should take a moment to relax your body and focus on each objective in turn. Imagine yourself in that size 12 dress, or whatever your chosen objective was.
It is important that your subconscious is able to visualize your objectives as this will help to keep you motivated. Just make sure you don’t set any dates for these objectives as failing to achieve them in the set time could be devastating for your progress.
