Technology is evolving at an alarming rate, and getting fit has never been easier. Fancy new fitness gadgets let you track the number of steps you take, the distance you cover and the calories you burn. There’s even a device that reads body fat. While there’s no gadget yet that increases the number of hours in a day, you can get a good workout even on a busy schedule with a little effort and imagination. So, save the excuses and check out five ways to sneak in a butt-kicking workout.
1. Take the stairs
If you work on an upper floor of a building, skip the elevator and take the stairs. This will not only improve your cardio and stamina, it will give your legs and butt a decent workout. If you’re at the mall, avoid the escalators and opt for stairs instead. If you do take the escalator, walk rather than stand. Any place you go that has stairs, take them.
2. Park and walk
When you’re going to the mall or grocery store, stop fighting for the space closest to your destination. Park as far away as possible and take a brisk walk to the store. Walking is one of the best exercises for staying healthy and fit. It also improves mood and helps prevent diseases.
3. Squat and sit-up while watching TV
While you’re catching up on your favorite shows, do three sets of squats and three sets of sit-ups. Aim for at 15-20 squats and 15-20 sit-ups per set. Squats are one of the best workouts for keeping your rear end, or gluteus muscles, plump and strong, while sit-ups help keep your abs tight. These exercises will trim your waistline during TV time. You’ll know it works because you’ll feel the burn and your butt and abs will be sore the next day.
4. Sit and squeeze
Whether you’re stuck sitting in traffic or in front of a computer all day, you can still work your butt and abs. While sitting, squeeze your butt cheeks super tight, hold for five seconds and release. Then suck your stomach as far in as you can, hold tight for five seconds and release. You can alternate this way at regular intervals throughout the day. The best part is you’ll be doing it in total secrecy. This can be your stealth workout!
5. Rise early
Even waking up 30 minutes earlier than usual three or four times per week will allow time for a great workout first thing in the morning. You can jog, lift weights, do push-ups, sit-ups, side twists and, of course, stretching exercises. It’s a great way to start your day!
Although workout technology is evolving rapidly, getting a workout doesn’t have to be difficult or complex. Incorporating one or more of the simple workouts above will result in a new body as well as a new you!
