Lea-Ann Ellison is a bodybuilder who faced a bevy of negative comments for posting pictures of herself working out 2 weeks before she was due to give birth. Lea-Ann Ellison refused to listen to critics who warned her she risked a miscarriage for working out 8 months pregnant. She gave birth to her son Skyler – who weighed in at 7lb 3oz is ‘the perfect infant’, said the extremely proud mother, who already has an eight-year-old and a 12-year-old.
The fitness fanatic, who opted for a natural birth and took no painkillers during an hour-long labour, added: ‘I can’t wait to take my baby out and show everybody that I didn’t injure him.’
Self-proclaimed ‘hot mom’ Mrs Ellison, from Los Angeles, admitted she had been hurt when people attacked her over the photos she posted on Facebook.
‘The ones that really bothered me were ones that said I was “selfish” for continuing my workout programme or those warning me “you’re going to miscarry”,’ the 35-year-old said.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists says recreational exercise can be beneficial in pregnancy but warns against over-exertion.
