Late last week in New Zealand, heavyweight Leamy Tato took on fellow heavyweight Willis Meehan in a lopsided bout. And not “lopsided” as a few pounds over or under in fighting weight or a couple inches difference in reach, but “lopsided” as in Tato was called in on late notice to face a far superior fighter, like a lamb being led to slaughter.
From the opening bell the mismatch was clear, and Meehan won by TKO after two rounds. As things were coming to a close, Meehan was raining down savage blows on Tato, who could barely keep his guard up. Blood even splattered on the ringside camera.

Having watched the fight, Tato really should not have been matched up against Meehan – he was clearly outclassed from start to finish.
Strangely enough, despite taking an absolute battering, he didn’t hit the deck. At one point his blood splatters everywhere, making its way on to the camera lens.
But here’s where it gets a little disturbing. Meehan is busy landing a series of brutal punches to the face and body of a helpless Tato and the referee lets it continue.
It got to the point that Meehan actually stopped punching, turned to the referee and demanded that he “Stop the f*cking fight!”.
The referee quickly called and end, but at that point it was already way too late.
I’ve seen just about everything when it comes to bizarre events in a boxing ring, but I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone demand that the beating they are inflicting on their opponent be stopped.
Credit to Meehan for pulling the plug. Most boxers would have continued to throw punches until Tato dropped.
