Ask five different guys at the gym what steroid results you can expect from taking synthetics—and you’ll probably get five different answers. You know exactly what I’m talking about, right?
Their responses will range anywhere from achieving immense muscle gains and superhuman strength, through to suffering life-threatening side effects or simply achieving no results at all.
It’s tough to know what to believe.
The problem is, much of what you hear is either hearsay or conjecture. Chances are, the closest many of these gym gurus have come to a steroid is their asthma inhaler.1
But, it doesn’t have to be that way.
Despite the plethora of steroids available, generally speaking, they all work in a very similar fashion.
And this article will make it all clear.
I’m not going to treat you like a kid and suggest that you just say no to steroids. You’re a big guy and can make your own decisions.
Instead, I will give you the whole story—the proven steroid results you can expect from taking these drugs—both positive and negative.
So, listen up.
Bro, it’s time to ditch the fairy tales and get down to the shocking truth.

Steroid Results
To a greater or lesser extent, androgenic steroids are anabolic—that is, they promote muscle growth.
Here’s why.
The majority of synthetics you hear about—Dianabol, Sustanon, Anadrol, and Winstrol, for example—are all derivatives of one of the most natural anabolic steroids of all, testosterone.2
These steroids have all been developed by manipulating the chemical structure of testosterone. This is in order to achieve more specific and targeted results.
It can include adaptations to promote larger muscle growth, lose more fat, increase strength, extend the life of the steroid, or reduce its side effects.
But usually, they all either build or retain muscle mass.
Typically, the steroid results you can expect while bodybuilding are:
- Larger muscle gains than resistance training alone can provide.3
- Increases in lifting strength.4
- Improvement in the muscle-fat ratio.5
- Defined, bulky muscle.
- Enhanced red blood cell count which raises oxygenation levels.6
- Visibly impressive vascularity.
Listen up.
While the above benefits are typical from taking synthetics, the overall steroid results you can expect depends on a variety of factors, including:
- The type of steroid being taken—although all mostly anabolic, some steroids focus more on fat loss and lean tissue retention than bulking muscle.
- The dosage—the more you take, the more pronounced the steroid results, both positive and negative.
- The duration of the cycle—visible steroids results do not appear after just one day.
- Your body—all guys are different, an individual’s physiology can affect the rate of muscle gain, fat loss, and propensity to side effects.
- Diet and training—steroids are effective, but they’re not miracle workers—the more attention you pay to a protein-rich diet and intense resistance exercise, the greater the positive results.
- The stack—steroids are often combined, either to increase efficacy or offset adverse effects.
Steroid Results After 1 Month
You are probably wondering—how fast do steroids work to build muscle?
As mentioned, the actual steroid results you can expect, and their speed of action, depends on a variety of factors.
So, I’ve made it simple.
To give you a general impression of the overall returns provided by these synthetics, I have detailed results based on a typical steroid muscle building cycle. It comprises of:
Deca Durabolin Weeks 1 to 12 400 mg per week
Testosterone enanthate Weeks 1 to 12 500 mg per week
Anastrozole Weeks 1 to 12 0.5 mg every other day
Dianabol Weeks 1 to 6 50 mg per day
A quick overview of this cycle:
- Dianabol kick starts the muscle building process—which is then continued after cessation by Deca Durabolin and testosterone enanthate.
- Anastrozole counteracts any increases in estrogen levels—a side effect of heavy testosterone loading—thus alleviating the chance of man-boobs and water retention.7
- 250mg of testosterone is injected twice weekly (total 500 mg).
- 400mg of Deca Durabolin is injected once a week.
In addition, these results assume the bodybuilder is eating a high-protein diet, consuming around 3000 calories per day and completes intense resistance training at least three times per week.
So, what are the steroid results after 1 month?
Even 24 hours into your steroid cycle, your body is already beginning to change.
Being easily absorbable compounds, the steroids enter the cells and begin to affect the function of DNA. They bind themselves to androgen receptors—enhancing the genes to promote muscle protein synthesis and reducing the breakdown rate of proteins.8 9
Get this.
It’s not long before you start seeing impressive steroid results. Many users report that within 5–9 days they find themselves able to notch up the weights. Strength increases, whether physiological or neurological, seem to occur within the first week of steroid use.
Additionally, in the first few days, you should notice a rapid improvement in your recovery times.
But, if you ever need proof that steroids work—the next three weeks are where the most significant steroid results become apparent.
This is crazy.
With most steroid cycles, especially those which include fast-acting synthetics, such as Anadrol or Dianabol—the highest proportion of gains are made within the first four weeks.
It’s not unusual to see a mass increase of 20 pounds in this short period—a reason why these particular steroids are dropped after 4–6 weeks and testosterone allowed to take over the reins.
There’s more.
You will find that your aggression, determination, and power escalate, pushing you even harder to achieve higher returns.
Steroid Results After 3 Months
After the massive gains during the first month—what more is there to be made?
For starters, using the typical steroid cycle I detailed earlier, mass increases will continue. However, as the more potent steroids are dropped after the first month or so, these gains are usually maintained by the more conservative testosterone.
Piling on a further 15 pounds in this period is not out of the norm—leading to total returns of around 35 pounds for a 12-week cycle.
But, that’s not the whole story.
During these three months, you will have witnessed a determination and intensity to your workouts that you’ve never experienced before (well, unless you are a seasoned juicer). Furthermore, you will find that your sets aren’t bottoming out as early.
Remember this.
A little of the additional weight increase will be due to both fat and water gains. The exact amount depends on the particular cycle you’re using. Anastrozole, as included in my example stack, is an excellent antidote to these unwanted effects. The fat and water retention can account for anywhere in the region of 5–15 percent of total mass gains.10
A quick word of caution.
After the end of three months, again depending on the particular steroids used in your cycle, chances are you will need some post-cycle therapy (PCT). This is essential to gently bring your body down and restore normal hormonal balance.
Steroids Before After
Before taking steroids, you should already have quite an impressive definition and pronounced muscles—all formed from intense resistance training. If you haven’t, then you shouldn’t be taking synthetics.
This is very important.
Steroids are only for guys who know how gym equipment works, are experienced in following a muscle-building training program and are paying attention to their diet. They’re not for armchair bodybuilders.
So, what are the steroids before and after results?
I’m guessing you’re already pretty defined. After using steroids, you will be almost unrecognizable. It’s like comparing a sensible family station wagon to an insane monster truck.
As these images show, in just 12 weeks the results provided by steroids are shocking. The definition is vastly increased, vascularity is off the scale, and bulk skyrockets.
These returns change what could be construed as an athlete’s physique into what is unmistakably a bodybuilder.
It doesn’t end there.
You will no longer be a guy who “just trains”. As your aggression and determination increases, you will turn into a freakin’ animal. Your hunger for lifting will be insatiable, and you will recover faster and power through every set like a machine.
Negative Effects of Steroids
It was all sounding amazing, wasn’t it? Sadly, we have to face up to the truth that steroids, while awesome tools for muscle growth, are frankly dangerous.
Here’s the irony.
We work out at the gym to take our bodies to the limit of musculature development. Making it rise above that of your average Joe. And steroids can help us achieve that—fast. The problem is, that ripped appearance is all external.
Internally, steroids really screw you up.
Here’s the shocking truth.
The negative effects of synthetics are numerous. Hence, I have listed the many adverse side effects of steroids in bodybuilding below.
However, one in particular deserves a specific mention.
Using steroids inhibits natural testosterone production. After all, if you are loading your body with this hormone (or its derivatives), why should your body waste valuable energy creating it?
Problem is, when you cease using steroids, your balls never fully recover. Testosterone production either dramatically slows or stops entirely. You’re hooked on steroids for the rest of your life—just to keep testosterone at a normal level.11
If that hasn’t put you off entirely, here are some more negative effects of steroids:
- Acne 12
- Increase in LDL (bad) cholesterol—leading to cardiovascular problems.13
- Aggression—beneficial for powering through sets, not so great if you continue this behaviour outside of the gym.14
- Cancer 15
- Throwing up.
- Jaundiced appearance—due to liver damage.
- Erectile dysfunction.
- Heart enlargement—possibly fatal.16
- Gynecomastia (man boobs).17
Searching online for steroid side effects pictures is quite an eye-opener. I recommend you check them out—if you have the stomach for it.
Positive Effects of Steroids
The negative effects of steroids are mainly caused by a serious loading of (modified) testosterone—this is also true of the positive effects.
It’s not all about bodybuilding.
In day-to-day life, steroids can provide benefits such as increased alertness, raised focus, elevated energy, and heightened libido. Many steroid users indicate that during their cycles they experience a greater “lust for life” than during their off cycle.
Medically, these anabolic steroids have also been shown to improve conditions such as muscular dystrophy, delayed puberty, and hypogonadism.18 19 20
But, the most significant positive effects of steroids apply to resistance training. Using the right steroids, at an effective dosage and combined with a dedicated workout regime, can lead to:
- Fast muscle gains.
- Rapid repair of tissues—both muscle fibers and joint collagen.21
- Elevated endurance.22
- Increased determination.
- Heightened strength.
- Rapid fat loss (in steroids such as Clenbuterol and Anavar).23
- Elevated definition.
- Impressive vascularity.
- Hulk-like physique.
- Cannonball shoulders.
- Increased bone density.24
- Heightened red blood cell count—improving both endurance and muscle repair.
Legal Steroids Without Side Effects
Want to use alternatives to steroids that comes without health risks and side effects?
There are a few supplement companies that sell Legal Steroids which are natural and legal supplements that mimic the effects of real steroids without any of the health risks.
These kind of supplements are definitely not as powerful as real steroids but some guys have had great results using them.
The real benefits of using these supplements is that : they promote muscle growth, strength, help you recover faster and they come without any side effects.
For example. John used the cutting stack from Crazybulk and got great results.
Jules got great results using D-bal (Dianabol alternative) for 12 weeks.

Summary
Anabolic steroids work. Period.
Hundreds of scientific studies have shown they’re a formidable tool to build muscle, raise strength, improve recovery times and give you an all-around monster physique. This is, of course, when combined with a protein-rich diet and a training regime targeted at building muscle mass.
The steroid results you should expect depend on the drug dosage, type, stack, individual physiology, and the length of the cycle.
But bear this in mind.
For every positive, there are more negative steroid results. Loading the body with lab-created synthetics plays havoc with its normal function. Okay, you may be fine coping with a little acne or hair loss—but what about shrinking balls, heart-attacks and liver disease?
The bottom line.
Steroids build muscle and damage your health.
Being aware of both these positive and negative steroid results allows you to make an informed decision about what is best for you and your training targets.
