Welcome to the most comprehensive Performance Lab Sport fat burner review on the internet.
As far as nutritional supplements produced with exercise performance in mind, fat burners can be pretty controversial.
The combination of a lack of responsible regulation, and the desire of vast numbers of people to lose weight, and fat in particular, by any means possible, has led to an array of synthetically produced fat burning supplements which can be dangerous to your health!
Consequently, it is vitally important that you have the right knowledge about these products in order to make an informed decision as to whether they are safe for you to consume, and whether they actually contain any ingredients which will help you to burn more fat whilst exercising!
That’s where we come in! Our Performance Lab fat burner review is designed to give you the tools to make the correct decision for your training and weight loss goals, whilst ensuring that this particular fat burner is safe for you to consume.
Everything you need to know from where to buy it and how much it costs, to a detailed breakdown of the ingredients included and how their dosages compare to the latest scientific research.
You’re welcome!
What is Performance Lab Sport fat burner?
The Performance Lab Sport fat burner is a 100% natural, vegan and caffeine free supplement designed to support weight and fat loss alongside fasted training in particular!
According to the official Performance Lab website (which by the way is one of the most professional looking and accessible brand sites we have come across in this market) this fat burner supplement achieves this goal by:
- Stimulating fat-splitting enzymes and fat-burning hormones,
- Increasing energy expenditure for peak calorie-burning during exercise,
- Optimizing hormones that drive metabolism and muscle growth,
- Helping to regulate blood sugar, appetite and fat storage,
- Preserving lean muscle mass during fasted and non-fasted training,
- Helping to burn more fat than exercise alone.
This all sounds pretty great to us! The only way to determine whether this product can live up to the hype, however, is by taking a closer look at the ingredients included and their specific dosages! Before we do, though, let’s consider how Performance Lab recommend you use their product for best effect!
How to use it?
Performance Lab suggest a 2-4 capsule serving around 15 minutes prior to your workout.
According to the website this supplement supports all weight control programs that include a healthy diet and regular exercise but is actually customized to optimise the fat-loss and muscle-gain results of fasted training (training on an empty stomach).
Performance Lab Sport fat burner ingredients
Before we take a closer look at the specific ingredients and their dosages, and discuss the merits of their inclusion and whether the latest scientific research supports their use, it would be prudent of us to answer one question of the utmost importance.
Does Performance Lab Sport fat burner contain any proprietary blends?
For those not already aware of what that actually means, here goes… A proprietary blend is a mixture of ingredients where the total weight of the blend is disclosed but the precise quantities of each individual component ingredient is not. That means you as the consumer have no idea how much of any of the key ingredients you are taking on board per serving. NOT a great place to be when it comes to a nutritional supplement.
If you are in any doubt as to why a manufacturer might make use of a proprietary blend, we can categorically tell you that it’s not because they are trying to prevent competitors from stealing their patented formulas. There is one reason and one reason only, and that’s to hide underdosed ingredients from YOU, the customer!
Fortunately for this product, there isn’t a single proprietary blend in sight, which means every key ingredient has its dosage fully disclosed so you know exactly how much of everything you’re putting in your body. A good start to the ingredients section of our fat burner by Performance Lab review.
All of the below dosages are based on a 2 capsule serving.
HMB (ß-Hydroxy ß-Methylbutyrate)-1000 mg
HMB is a metabolite of leucine and 2-ketoisocaproic acid and features in this product less for its capacity to help boost fat burning and more for its supposed positive impact on muscle preservation during fasted training. By neutralising muscle-damaging enzymes that are generated during fasted training and encouraging the body to use stored fat as opposed to muscle tissue, HMB is thought to negate some of the commonly purported negatives of training in a fasted state!
Scientific research has indicated, therefore, that supplementation with HMB is capable of increasing individuals fat free mass whilst simultaneously reducing their total fat mass.[1]
As far as the most commonly recommended daily dose is concerned, most research indicates that 3000 mg is optimum.[2] This means the 1000 mg contained in this Performance Lab Sport fat burner is a little disappointing, and it is hard for us to say whether it is likely to have the desired effects or not!
Coleus Forskohlii- 250 mg
Coleus Forskohlii is a root herb that is the only natural source of its primary active ingredient: Forskolin.
Forskolin may help to promote a desirable body composition by:
- Optimising hormonal regulation of metabolism,
- Thermogenesis- literally means heat-producing. When your body burns calories it generates more heat, so supplements which increase energy expenditure are considered thermogenic.[3]
- Anabolic muscle growth;
- Activating an enzyme called protein kinase. This stimulates lipase which helps in the breakdown of triglycerides (i.e the foundations of stored body fat)
As far as the science is concerned regarding human supplementation with Forskolin, studies are limited but promising with some research indicating that prolonged consumption of 500-700 mg per day is capable of improving body composition, particularly in overweight subjects.[4]
The limited nature of the research so far means it is hard for us to judge whether the 250 mg serving of Forskolin in this Performance Lab sport fat burner product will be effective or not!
Cayenne pepper extract- 50 mg
The key ingredient within cayenne pepper extract as far as fat burning is concerned is capsaicin.
Capsaicin is the compound that is responsible for the pungency of capsicums (spiciness in other words). It has been shown to increase thermogenesis by enhancing catecholamine (i.e. adrenaline) secretion and is also capable of suppressing appetite.[5] A pretty effective double whammy when it comes to losing weight and burning fat.
A review of 20 scientific studies concluded that capsaicin supplements can boost metabolism by up to 50 kcals a day which could lead to significant weight loss over time.[6] Taking 2.5 mg with each meal resulted in 10% more fat being burned in the subsequent 24 hours than a control group.[7] The suspected mechanism for this effect is based on capsaicin’s likely stimulation of beta adrenergic agonists, which play a role in the SNS.[8]
The 50 mg cayenne pepper serving in this Performance Lab Sport product is around half our preferred dosage but could still have a positive effect on your fat burning capacity.
Black pepper extract- 2.5 mg
Black pepper extract supplies an active ingredient called piperine, a thermonutrient, which has been suggested to assist with weight control.
It is thought to achieve this by optimising thermogenesis, and in turn increasing energy expenditure. Piperine is also purported to promote efficient food metabolism, including the enhancement of nutrient absorption; as well as inhibiting the formation of new fat cells, a process known as adipogenesis.
We consider a 10 mg serving per day an optimum dose which means the 2.5 mg dose contained in this Performance Lab Sport fat burner is quite a bit shy of optimal!
Performance Lab Sport fat burner benefits
The good news about this supplement is that it contains a number of ingredients which have solid scientific research to support their benefits for weight control. HMB, Forskolin, cayenne pepper and black pepper extract are all worthwhile inclusions and dosed correctly can certainly support your weight management goals.
Unfortunately for this Sport fat burner by Performance Lab review, some of the dosages of these key ingredients, including forskolin, cayenne pepper and black pepper extract are quite a way shy of our recommended servings! Let’s not forget, however, that our assessment of the ingredients is based on a 2 capsule serving, and the website does suggest that up to 4 capsules a day can be consumed. Remember though, the more capsules you take per serving, the greater the associated cost per serving.
The major benefit of this product, however, has to be the fact that everything in it is natural. No synthetically manufactured ingredients and no harsh stimulants which can cause both minor and major side effects!
Performance Lab Sport fat burner side effects
There aren’t any obvious side effects to consider when consuming this product. All of the key ingredients are naturally sourced and dosed at sensible, if not optimal levels.
Is it a scam?
Not as far as we can tell no! All of the ingredients included have at least some scientific research to corroborate their effectiveness in helping users to control their weight and lose fat as opposed to muscle mass.
Whether or not this Performance Lab product is truly effective will be based more on the dosages of these key ingredients rather than the ingredients themselves. Unfortunately, some of them are certainly dosed below optimal levels, but we’re not sure that makes this product a scam!

Performance Lab Sport fat burner price and where to buy?
This fat burner supplement only seems to be available on the official Performance Lab website which has a European, UK, US, Canadian and Australian branch to it so the product is at least available pretty globally!

Summary
All in all, this has been a pretty encouraging Performance Lab Sport fat burner review. This product contains a number of quality ingredients, all of which have pretty solid evidence to support their weight management credentials.
The inclusion of a solid, if not optimal, dose of HMB is a real positive given the products focus on supporting fasted workouts.
Yes, there could be more potent doses of some of the other key ingredients including cayenne and black pepper extract as well as Forskolin, but the servings which are present should still have a positive impact on your weight management strategy. Plus, you can always increase your serving size to boost these dosages a little.
By far and away the biggest positive for this product, however, is the fact that all of the key ingredients are naturally sourced (no synthetically produced compounds), and stimulant free, which means there are absolutely no side effects to consuming this product, which can often be a problem in the fat burner market.
If you’re looking for a gentle introduction to fat burner supplements, and you already train in a fasted state, or if you just want to avoid some of the more controversial and stimulant heavy products which are available, then you can’t go too far wrong with this Performance Lab Sport fat burner!
