What Is Shred Igniter?
It is worth noting that there a few varieties within the Body Fortress Shred Igniter range including Shred Igniter Thermogenic Stimulator. This review focuses on the Shred Igniter Metabolic Stimulator product. This is NOT, we repeat, NOT a Shred-abolic by Body Fortress fat burner review!

Yet another glossy sales pitch from yet another supplement manufacturer competing for your business!
The easiest way of determining whether Body Fortress are full of shit or not? Take a closer look at the ingredients included and how their dosages compare to the latest scientific research! But before we do, letâs consider how you should be using this supplement to get the most out of it!
How to use it?
Mix one to two scoops with 8-12 ounces of water and consume prior to your workout or with a meal. Begin with one scoop to assess tolerance and gradually increase to two scoops after several workouts. As you can see, this is one of the few fat burner supplements we have reviewed which comes in powder rather than capsule form.
Shred Igniter ingredients
You can determine one of the most important things about a nutritional supplement with the briefest of glances at its Supplement Facts Label and that is whether the product contains any proprietary blends!
Whatever a supplement manufacturer might try to tell you about hiding secret formulas from the prying eyes of competitors, there is actually only one reason why they choose to hide the dosages of key ingredients in proprietary blends, and thatâs to keep underdosed ingredients a secret from YOU, the consumer!
The good news for this Shred Igniter review is that whilst the word âblendâ features a couple of times on the ingredients list, the product does not actually contain any proprietary blends and every single ingredient has its quantity per serving fully disclosed. Yaaay!
FYI the dosages discussed below are based on a 2 scoop serving of this Body Fortress Shred Igniter fat burner.
L-leucine- 4g
L-leucine is one of three amino acids which make up what is known as Branch Chain Amino Acids or BCAAâs. These are not commonly associated with fat loss but rather as building blocks for protein synthesis and muscle building.
It is this function, however, which may make leucine supplementation attractive to individuals seeking to lose weight. Why? Because it is has been shown to help preserve muscle mass during calorie restricted diets. This means that any weight that you do lose during this calorie restriction is fat rather than muscle. Winner!
Most research agrees that the optimal dose for BCAA intake as a whole is 5-20g consumed in a 2:1:1 ratio (leucine: isoleucine:valine) per day, which means the 4g of leucine would typically make up a total BCAA serving of 8g, which fits nicely in the recommended range.
Beta alanine- 2.4g
Beta alanine supplementation is more typically associated with exercise performance benefits rather than weight loss or fat burning, and if you have read any of our pre-workout product reviews then chances are you know all about its effectiveness.
By increasing your muscle stores of something called carnosine, beta alanine helps to buffer lactic acid during anaerobic activity and therefore allows you to complete more sets and reps before fatigue sets in!
Most of the scientific research suggests that the optimum dose in order to achieve these ergogenic benefits is 4-6g per day.[1]
As far as fat burning is concerned, beta alanine doesnât seem to have much of a direct influence. It doesnât, for instance, induce thermogenesis and boost your metabolism or suppress your appetite like many of the ingredients commonly found in weight loss supplements.
However, by enabling you to train at a greater intensity for longer periods of time, it will certainly help you expend more energy when exercising. And as we all know, the key to losing weight is burning more calories than you consume so anything that helps you to increase your output is going to be pretty helpful!
L-carnitine- 1.5g
There have been a number of studies into the potential benefits of l-carnitine as a dietary supplement to aid weight loss and whilst not producing entirely convincing results, there is some evidence to suggest that it is effective.
Research has demonstrated that subjects who received an l-carnitine supplement lost significantly more weight and showed a decreased BMI in comparison to those who did not.
Most experts agree that carnitines fat burning potential is probably down to its role in the breakdown of both glucose and fat, and the resulting increase in energy expenditure that comes with it.
The optimum dose for l-carnitine supplementation is 2-3g per day which means the 1.5 g dose in one 2 scoop serving of Shred Igniter by Body Fortress isnât quite optimal but may still just be effective.[2]
Green tea extract- 500 mg
The fat loss benefits of green tea are well documented and are very much related to the high levels of an antioxidant known as EGCG (the major catechin found in green tea), as well as the caffeine content.
Research has demonstrated that supplementing with green tea, and in particular with ECGC can increase energy expenditure and stimulate fat oxidation.
In a 12 week study of overweight males, for instance, consumption of ECGC was associated with far greater reductions in body weight, body fat and visceral fat.[3]Â The mechanism behind these results is thought to involve the inhibition of an enzyme which degrades noradrenaline. By prolonging the action of noradrenaline, overall energy expenditure and fat burning in particular can be increased.
There is, as yet, no real agreement on an optimal dose of green tea extract for fat burning purposes but we consider the 500 mg dose in Shred Igniter pretty much spot on!
L-tyrosine- 500 mg
L-tyrosine supplementation is probably more commonly associated with those seeking an increase in energy levels and improvements in cognitive performance, which is why it has become a staple of pre-workout products. It has also, however, been purported to have benefits for weight loss.
By stimulating the sympathetic nervous system, tyrosine helps to increase adrenaline and noradrenaline secretion, which are the primary mediators of lipolysis and thermogenesis.[4]
In fact studies have suggested that the effectiveness of several sympathomimetics (drugs which stimulate the SNS) may be limited by the amount of tyrosine substrate available for catecholamine synthesis.[5]
An optimal serving for l-tyrosine supplementation has not yet been established, with recommended dosage varying between 500 mg irrespective of weight to 150 mg/kg of body weight. Consequently, we can be fairly confident that the 500 mg dose contained in this Body Fortress product should be effective!
Caffeine anhydrous- 300 mg
One of the most widely used supplement ingredients on the market, featuring in energy drinks, pre-workouts and of course fat burners, caffeine is, arguably the most common stimulant ingredient in use today, and for good reason.
By stimulating the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) caffeine increases levels of adrenaline. This helps to free fatty acids from fat stores around the body for use as fuel during exercise and day to day life.[6]
Scientific research has demonstrated that even a low dose (100mg) has the potential to produce a thermogenic effect, boosting the resting metabolic rate by 3-4% over a two and half hour period.[7]
The 300 mg dose in every 2 scoop serving of Shred Igniter is easily enough to generate the thermogenic response weâre after for fat loss. It is also a pretty potent serving and therefore may cause some negative side effects. More on that a little later!
Shred Igniter benefits
In fairness, pretty much every single active ingredient in Shred Igniter by Body Fortress is going to be of some benefit to you. Whilst leucine and beta alanine donât appear to have any direct influence on fat burning, there respective implications for protein synthesis and general exercise performance mean they are likely to help users lose weight and burn more fat indirectly.
Carnitine, green tea extract, tyrosine and caffeine all have a decent level of scientific research to suggest that they help to induce thermogenesis and boost your metabolism and generally use fat stores as fuel more effectively. And whatâs more. They all seem to be dosed at meaningful levels.
Shred Igniter side effects
There is only really one ingredient which you need to be wary of as far as side effects is concerned and that is caffeine. As already mentioned, the 300 mg dose in this product can definitely be considered potent and may cause symptoms including diarrhea, vomiting, the jitters and even anxiety. As a result, we suggest following the protocol advised by Body Fortress and assessing your tolerance level with a one scoop serving which will provide a far more manageable 175 mg dose of caffeine!
Is it a scam?
Absolutely not no! It contains way too many scientifically proven ingredients at meaningful doses to be anything but a legitimate nutritional supplement!

Shred Igniter price and where to buy?
Without doubt the easiest place to purchase Shred Igniter by Body Fortress is Amazon. It will set you back $19.99 which means 67 cents per one scoop and $1.34 per two scoop serving. That puts it kind of in the middle of the road for a fat burner as far as cost goes.
Summary
All in all this has been a very positive Shred Igniter review. The product contains a whole range of scientifically backed ingredients at generally meaningful doses, and whilst leucine and beta alanine are more commonly associated with building muscle and alleviating fatigue respectively, they will indirectly help users to lose weight and burn fat, as explained.
The inclusion of fat burner stalwarts: carnitine, green tea extract, tyrosine and caffeine all at optimal or close to optimal levels is also a major positive. These ingredients should absolutely help you to nudge that calorie equation in favor of weight loss rather than weight gain, but this supplement still needs to be taken alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise regime for optimum effect.
At a cost of $1.34 per day, Shred Igniter also offers pretty decent value for money, especially considering the quality of the ingredients included. Our final verdictâŚ? Give this Body Fortress produced fat burner supplement a go, youâre unlikely to regret it!
